Quinte West and Belleville team up for Waste Reduction Week

Waste Reduction Week is from Oct. 16 to 22. This year, Quinte West’s Environmental Stewardship Advisory Committee and Belleville’s Green Task Force Committee have teamed up to host a community cleanup event on Oct. 21 and Giveaway Days on Oct. 21 and 22.

Quinte West and Belleville Community Cleanup: Oct. 21

The Quinte West and Belleville Community Cleanup aims to bring community members together to clean up our parks, roadsides and other open spaces with the common goal of creating a healthier environment. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21. Participants are encouraged to clean up local parks, roadsides and other open spaces and bring their collected items to any of the free drop-off stations located at the Quinte West Operations Centre (177 North Huff Ave.), the Batawa Community Centre (81 Plant St.), the Frankford Public Works Yard (96 Wolfe St.) and the old fairground site in Belleville (246 Bridge St. W). Giveaway Days: Oct. 21 and 22

Giveaway Days aim to divert items from ending up in landfills by encouraging residents to put their unwanted and gently used household items at the curb for others to take. This event will span over two days beginning Saturday, Oct. 21 until Sunday, Oct. 22. Those participating are asked to place unwanted items in good condition curbside on Saturday morning. Any remaining items should be brought back inside by Sunday evening. For more information, visit quintewest.ca/giveawaydays and belleville.ca/giveawayday.

“The community participation we have got for these initiatives in the past is great to see so the Green Task Force is thrilled to be hosting them yet again,” said Chair of the Green Task Force Committee, Councillor Chris Malette. “I encourage everyone to do some fall cleaning in preparation for Giveaway Days and get your friends and family together to help pick up some trash during Community Clean Up.”

“This Waste Reduction Week, we encourage all residents to take action to reduce waste in their communities,” says Councillor Zack Card, Chair of Quinte West’s Environmental Stewardship Advisory Committee. “Participating in Giveaway Days and the Community Cleanup are great ways to help clean up unused items in our homes and in the environment.”
