In Their Shoes awareness event

A community fundraising event that raises awareness about the day-to-day challenges experienced by the unhoused community in Quinte West.

The 2024 In Their Shoes awareness returns to the Quinte West community on Sunday, March 24, from 11 – 3:30 p.m. Rain or shine.

  • 11:30 a.m. – Registration
  • 12-1 p.m. – Guest speakers and information booths
  • 1:15 p.m. – Walk starts
  • 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. – Refreshments and information booths

Join members of the Quinte West Community Task Force and community partners to learn about the work being done in Quinte West to support housing and homelessness challenges faced by community members.

The event includes short talks offered by community partners that are working hard to develop and implement community efforts aimed at reducing housing and homelessness challenges in our community, and a walk around downtown Trenton to learn about the challenges faced by members of the unhoused and precariously housed community in Quinte West.

The walk will start and finish at the Duncan McDonald Memorial Arena where local organizations will also be onsite with information booths on display.

Donations of food and warm weather clothing, deodorant, hygiene products, shoes, tents, sleeping bags, non-perishable food including gum, energy bars and ensure items are appreciated and will be distributed to the participating front-line social service organizations providing support to unhoused and precariously housed community members in Quinte West.

This event is an initiative supported by the City of Quinte West’s Community Safety & Well-Being Plan.

What:

Quinte West “In Their Shoes” Fundraising Walk

Join us for a community event to raise awareness about the day-to-day challenges experienced by the unhoused community in Quinte West!

When:

Sunday, Feb. 12, 2023 from 1 – 4 p.m.

Where:

The walk will begin at the Duncan McDonald Memorial Gardens at 1 p.m.  and include drop ins at various agencies that serve this vulnerable population. The fundraising walk is approximately 2 km and includes the following stops:

The “In Their Shoes” Fundraising Walk is open to all!

There are two options to participate:

  1. Come out to participate in the walk on the day of the event (pre-register using the form below, or just come out on the day of the event.)
  2. Pre-register (as an individual or as a team.)

Collect donations/monetary sponsorships for your team. Pledge forms can be downloaded here. Donations may be brought to the event on Feb. 12. 

Select an agency from the list below to ‘adopt’ (who will be the recipient of your fundraising efforts.) For more information about the agencies, click here.

Corporate Teams will be eligible to compete for the Mayor’s Challenge Trophy – presented to the corporate team with the highest donation amount.

All participants will be entered into a draw for some great prizes!
