Requirements:
A professional engineer must undertake the general review (PDF) of the project during demolition only where:
- The building exceeds three storeys in building height or 600 m2 in the building area.
- The building structure includes pre-tension members.
- The demolition will extend below the level of any adjacent building’s footings and occur within the soil’s response angle, drawn from the bottom of such footings.
- Explosives or lasers are used to be used during demolition.
A copy of the property survey noting what is to be demolished must be submitted. Additional drawings may be requested at the discretion of the plans examiner.
Application process
Before submission, ensure that all necessary and applicable permissions and approvals are met.
A complete application must be submitted with all the required forms, documents and applicable drawings. Building permit fees are required at the time of submission.
Bring the application and two copies of the required documentation to the Customer Service Counter located on the second floor of City Hall. We’re open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.
We accept cash, debit, or cheque (payable to the City of Quinte West).
After speaking with a representative from building services to determine the permit and development costs, send the application and two copies of the required documentation and a cheque payable to the City of Quinte West to:

Note that for email submissions, the permit will not be accepted until payment is made.

- Ontario One Call locates any buried infrastructure on the property and will identify if you can safely call 1-800-400-2255.
- Lower Trent Conservation Authority at 613-394-4829 or Quinte Conservation Authority at 613-968-3434. The conservation authority must be contacted if you are demolishing within the floodplain.
- The Electrical Safety Authority handles electrical permits.
