Building permits are required for any tent or group of tents that are:
- More than 60 m2 (646 sq. ft) in the area (single tent), or
- More than 60 m2 (646 sq. ft) in the combined area (tents in a group), or
- Attached to a building, or
- Assembled less than 3m (9’-10”) from other buildings/structures

The following forms are required for a permit application:
- Permit application (PDF)
- Fire safety plan
- Commitment to general review (PDF) if the tent is greater than 225 m2 (2,421 sq. ft)
Requirements
Tents or groups of tents that exceed 225 m2 (2421 sq. ft) in the area:
- The supporting framing structure and anchorage system for this size tent must be designed and inspected on-site by a professional engineer.
Tents that are partially enclosed or fully enclosed with walls or contain bleachers:
- The design must be done by a registered designer qualified in large buildings with a current Building Code Identification Number (BCIN) or a professional engineer.
Drawings (drawn to scale) are required to be submitted and are to include:
- Site plan showing the tent’s location(s), including distances to other tents or buildings/structures.
- A certificate of flame resistance (NFPA 701 or CAN/ULC-S109).
- Provisions for firefighting (locations of fire hydrants, fire access route and fire extinguishers).
In addition to the drawings noted above, tents or groups of tents that exceed 225 m2 (2421 sq. ft) in areas, or are partially enclosed with walls, or contain bleachers, also require drawings showing:
- Location of exits
- Emergency lighting
- The number and location of washroom facilities
- Tent occupant load
- Design of bleachers (if applicable)
Application process:
A complete application must be submitted with all the required forms, documents and applicable drawings.
Before submission, ensure that all necessary and applicable permissions and approvals are met.
Bring the application and two copies of the required documentation to the Customer Service Counter located on the second floor of City Hall. We’re open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.
We accept cash, debit, or cheque (payable to the City of Quinte West).
After speaking with a representative from building services to determine the permit and development costs, send the application and two copies of the required documentation and a cheque payable to the City of Quinte West to:
