Docs By the Bay was established in 2017 as a partnership between the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation and the City of Quinte West. The Municipality of Brighton joined the program in 2019, and Docs By The Bay now serves a total population of 56,000.
Docs by the Bay efforts include:
- Focused on the recruitment and retention of family physicians in Quinte West
- Coordinates medical education opportunities for medical students and medical residents to experience Quinte West in the hopes of having them establish practices locally
- Recruits new physicians by: attending job fairs, building a database of potential prospects, and various outreach and promotional activities
- Strengthens relationships with current physicians by creating a collegial medical community that motivates them to maintain local health services

Need a family doctor?
The assignment of patients to new doctors and nurse practitioners is a service administered by the Province of Ontario. Individuals in need of a family doctor or nurse practitioner can register with Health Care Connect at 1-800-445-1822 or visit ontario.ca/HealthCareConnect. The City does not oversee this service and Docs by the Bay does not connect patients with doctors, or maintain a wait list.
