Promenade on Front opens for the summer in downtown Trenton

Mayor Jim Harrison and Quinte West Council members joined the downtown business community to celebrate the opening of Promenade on Front this morning. Today’s ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the beginning of the two-month-long initiative that offers a unique way to discover downtown Trenton with a new pedestrian-friendly zone on Front Street.

The southbound lane of Front Street from Elgin Street to Dundas Street West is closed to vehicular traffic until Aug. 29, 2022, to accommodate extended outdoor patios, entertainment, a children’s outdoor play area and outdoor dining and shopping. In addition, enhancements to RiverFront Square such as Adirondack chairs and a lit alleyway are the picture perfect spot to relax and enjoy the waterfront over the next eight weeks.

“We’re excited to launch this pilot project and offer a new way to enjoy downtown Trenton this summer,” said Linda Lisle, manager of economic development and tourism with the City of Quinte West. “Promenade on Front supports local businesses and provides more walkable spaces, as outlined in the City’s Tourism Development Strategy.”

“Promenade on Front presents the perfect opportunity to support our downtown businesses while reconnecting with family and friends after two long years of pandemic restrictions,” said Mayor Jim Harrison.

Promenade on Front officially opens today, July 8, with entertainment and activities scheduled throughout the summer. This weekend’s entertainment includes a live performance by musician Chris McLeod on Saturday, July 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. in RiverFront Square. For more information, including upcoming programming and entertainment, visit quintewest.ca/promenade.
