City of Quinte West seeking input on the Official Plan

The City of Quinte West is reviewing its Official Plan and seeking input from the community on how the city should grow. The Official Plan (2013) is the City’s key planning document that outlines the goals, objectives and policies on how land in the community should be used. The provincially-mandated review of the Official Plan will consider community feedback, new provincial legislation and regulations, and new policy initiatives to help guide decisions on future growth in Quinte West.

The City will host three public open houses, which will each focus on different areas of the Plan:

Natural environment policies
Date: Thursday, May 5, from 5:30-8 p.m. (presentation at 6:00 pm)
Location: Batawa Community Centre, 81 Plant St., Batawa, ON

Urban growth and settlement policies
Date: Thursday, May 12, from 5:30-8 p.m. (presentation at 6:00 pm)
Location: Batawa Community Centre, 81 Plant St., Batawa, ON

Rural, agriculture and other policies
Date: Thursday, May 26, from 5:30-8 p.m. (presentation at 6:00 pm)
Location: Batawa Community Centre, 81 Plant St., Batawa, ON

The City is asking the public to weigh in on topics such as the protection of woodlands and wetlands, the development of walking and cycling infrastructure, policies to address climate change, and the proposed urban boundary expansion to allow more land for housing.

Each open house will begin with a presentation by City staff, followed by a question and answer and public feedback period. Presentations from each open house will be available online.

The public can also provide input online beginning May 4 until June 3, 2022, through the City’s public engagement site at getinvolved.quintewest.ca

The input received online and at the open houses will help create an updated draft Official Plan, which will be available for further public input this summer.
