“Your Air Force at Trenton” public art exhibit launches in Quinte West

The City of Quinte West has partnered with the National Air Force Museum of Canada (NAFMC) to exhibit “Your Air Force at Trenton”, an outdoor public art display marking the celebration of 100 years of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and the history of 8 Wing/Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Trenton.

“Your Air Force at Trenton” celebrates the history of 8 Wing/CFB Trenton, formerly known as the RCAF Station Trenton and engages visitors in a journey through the Base’s development with photos and stories. The exhibit displays 16 photos of historical images, artifacts and perspectives offering insight into the Base’s influence and impact on the community over the years.

“We are grateful to partner with the National Air Force Museum of Canada to bring the ‘Your Air Force at Trenton’ exhibit to life,” says Linda Lisle, Manager of Economic Development and Tourism. “The photos and history captured on the exhibit’s panels have been shared from NAFMC’s historical archives and from local residents through previous photo contests. They help tell the story of 8 Wing/CFB Trenton’s growth in Quinte West over most of the last century.”

The “Your Air Force at Trenton” exhibit is the next installation in the City’s ‘Art on the Trent’ outdoor public art program, with art on display in RiverFront Square, Centennial Park and Frankford Tourist Park.

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with the City to share the history of CFB Trenton through the ‘Art on the Trent’ series,” said Hailey Graham, Marketing and Communications Administrator at the National Air Force Museum of Canada. “As we continue to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the RCAF, visitors can learn more about the history of our Air Force in a series of new exhibits opening this summer at the NAFMC.”

The “Your Air Force at Trenton” exhibit will be on display until Sept. 2024.

About Art on the Trent

The ‘Art on the Trent’ outdoor public art program brings art to public spaces along the Trent River in Quinte West. In late 2022, the City received grant funding for the purchase of eight outdoor art frame structures that have been installed in RiverFront Square, Centennial Park and Frankford Tourist Park. The art frames are used by the City to program public art in these outdoor public spaces on an on-going basis.
