On July 25, Cobourg Development Services completed the installation of a temporary water pipe along the north sidewalk of the D. J. MacDonald Bridge in Trenton. The temporary water pipe is now fully operational, providing water to Trenton Water Service customers west of the Trent River affected by the July 17 water main break.
The temporary pipe is 550 metres long and 45 centimetres in diameter, and maintains water supply to Trenton Water Service customers west of the Trent River until the primary water main is permanently repaired. In addition to the temporary pipe, two existing 25 centimetre (10 inch) pipes located under the Trent River from the Ontario Street Boat Launch west to Ford Street are also working to provide water to Trenton Water Service customers.
The temporary pipe will remain in place until the water main is permanently repaired.
The City continues to investigate the cause of the water main break and gather more information to determine the best permanent repair option for the primary water main. The permanent repair process is expected to be completed before the first frost.
