Spring into safety with Quinte West Fire and Emergency Services

Daylight saving time begins this weekend with clocks turning ahead one hour at 2 a.m. on March 10.

Quinte West Fire and Emergency Services reminds residents of this opportunity to ‘spring into safety’ and prepare for the year with these helpful safety tips:

Residents are encouraged to prepare for any emergency by taking these proactive steps:

Change your clocks this Sunday to reflect the ‘spring forward’ time change.

  • Replace batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms to ensure they are working correctly.
  • Download the City’s emergency checklist to stay informed and prepared for any emergency.
  • Assemble or update your 72-hour emergency kit with essential supplies such as water, non-perishable food, medications, and first-aid items.
  • Review and update your emergency contact list, ensuring it includes family members, friends, and important contacts.

“We encourage all residents to use this weekend’s time change as a reminder to prioritize your safety and preparedness,” says David Wheeler, Quinte West Fire Prevention Officer. “Taking these simple and important steps can make a big difference in an emergency situation and help save lives.”

The reminders above are just some of Quinte West Fire and Emergency Services’ safety tips. For more information and resources on staying safe this spring and always, visit quintewest.ca/BePrepared
