Quinte West’s Centennial Park is Soccer Central

Recent and upcoming soccer events, including the Cameron Memorial Soccer Tournament, the Quinte West Soccer Club’s annual House League Year-end Tournament, and the highly anticipated Canada Soccer Toyota National Championships this fall, are drawing athletes, families and the community to Centennial Park in Quinte West.

The Quinte West Soccer Club (QWSC) welcomed over 2,000 youth soccer players at the 26th annual Cameron Memorial Soccer Tournament from Aug. 9 to 11 and will host its year-end house league tournament this weekend (Aug. 17 to 18) in Centennial Park.

This October, the City of Quinte West will welcome teams from across Canada as well as coaches, officials, families and residents to Centennial Park for the Canada Soccer Toyota National Championships U-15 Cup.

As part of this tournament, Centennial Park will feature exciting ‘Soccer Central’ programming including food and beverage vendors, games, and activities for residents and visitors during the national tournament.

Soccer Central, located at the Quinte West Pop-ups from Oct. 11 to 13, will feature:

  • 15 large, outdoor yard games provided by Hitched Games
  • Caribbean and jerk food options from Barbacoa Boyz
  • Classic food truck favourites from The Binge Box food truck
  • Shaved ice treats from Kona Ice
  • Funnel cakes from The Pink Funnel

Soccer Central also has its own look in the form of a logo created by the Koopmans family, Kinsley (age 8), Ezekiel (age 7), and Asher (age 5), as part of their submission to the City’s World Art Day Soccer Central logo contest earlier this year. The logo will appear in and around Soccer Central at the Quinte West Pop-ups leading up to and during the national tournament.

“Soccer plays a big role in our community, from local and regional tournaments to the opportunity to host teams from across the country this Thanksgiving weekend,” said Mayor Jim Harrison. “This is a great opportunity to showcase all Quinte West has to offer and we look forward to welcoming all the players, coaches and families to our city.”

“Following the Cameron Memorial tournament and looking ahead to this weekend’s house league tournament and this fall’s national championships, it’s an exciting time for soccer in Quinte West,” said Kelly Scott, president of the Quinte West Soccer Club and member of the Canada Soccer Local Organizing Committee. “We look forward to sharing our community’s passion for soccer with all the visiting teams and their families in October.”

Vendors, local businesses and service clubs interested in being part of the Soccer Central experience in October are encouraged to complete the online expression of interest form.
