Quinte West Warming Centre to open Dec. 1, 2023

The Quinte West Warming Centre will open nightly for the winter on Dec. 1 through the end of March 2024.

The overnight warming centre, located at Trenton United Church, 85 Dundas St. E, offers a safe space for community members to stay warm during the winter months. The centre will be open nightly from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. from Dec. 1 until March 31.

“We thank Hastings County and our community partners for working with us to offer this necessary service for our most vulnerable residents,” said Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison. “We are building upon the success of last year’s efforts by opening the warming centre nightly during the winter months for the 2023-2024 season.”

“Hastings County is pleased to be able to assist the City of Quinte West with the opening and operation of a warming centre again this year. This is a critical service for our communities to be able to provide a safe and warm place for people who are experiencing homelessness in the cold winter months. Through this model, we are able to bring together important supports and services through key partnerships with organizations who are dedicated to assisting vulnerable members of our communities,” stated Warden Bob Mullin.

This is the third year the overnight warming centre has been operational in Quinte West. The centre is a space for individuals to seek relief from the cold. Beds and meals are not provided.
