Quinte West Council approves 2024 Housing Action Plan

Quinte West Council approved the 2024 Quinte West Housing Action Plan at its May 15 meeting.

The 2024 Housing Action Plan aligns with the City’s Strategic Plan and Official Plan, and was originally approved in 2023 as part of the City’s application for federal funding through the Housing Accelerator Fund. The plan’s goals focus on making lasting changes that help to reduce barriers to housing supply and streamline and speed up housing approvals.

The approved plan increases the number of initiatives the City will undertake towards these goals, and aligns the City’s housing initiatives with the available resources to help increase the affordable housing supply in Quinte West.

Highlights of the approved Quinte West Housing Action Plan include:

  • Implementing the College Street Affordable Housing project that will deliver approximately 48 affordable rental and medium-density residential units on the City-owned three-acre College Street property.
  • Implementing a new e-permitting solution for building permits that will streamline application submission and tracking, reduce processing timelines, and increase application certainty for developers.
  • Providing incentives to homeowners who create new accessory dwelling units in their existing home and who make the units available at affordable rates under the program.

“The housing initiatives put forward in the 2024 Housing Action Plan further the City’s ongoing Strategic Plan commitments to encourage the development of affordable housing in Quinte West,” says Brian Jardine, Director of Planning and Development.

The City is currently recruiting for a Housing Action Plan Coordinator responsible for supporting the Housing Action Plan’s initiatives and deliverables. More information about this position is available at quintewest.ca/careers.
