World Town Planning Day: Meet Scott Pordham

Q: What is your role with Quinte West?

A: As a policy planner, I prepare development policies to keep the City’s Official Plan and zoning bylaw up to date and track the status of developments to satisfy provincial requirements.

Q: How long have you worked for the City?

A: I have been working for the City of Quinte West for 19 years.

Q: What do you like most about your job, and what is the most challenging part?

A: My favourite part of being a policy planner is providing meaningful input on how the City will develop over the long term. One of the challenges I face is balancing the needs and wishes of developers with the public interest. People can have vastly different ideas on what they think is best for their community, and it is essential to consider how planning decisions will impact everyone involved.

Q: What do you wish people knew about your job?

A: Planning staff work hard to respond to development inquiries and applications. The planning department spends a lot of time coordinating between City departments, government agencies and landowners.

Q: What’s your favourite thing to do/see/eat in Quinte West?

A: My favourite thing to do in Quinte West is enjoy the water at Oak Lake.
