The City of Quinte West Fire and Emergency Services invites the public to mark Fire Prevention Week from Oct. 6 – 12 with family-friendly safety activities.
Quinte West Fire and Emergency Services is hosting a public open house on Saturday, Oct. 5, at Fire Station 1, 49 Dixon Dr., Trenton, between 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. to kick off Fire Prevention Week. This annual family-friendly event welcomes residents to learn about smoke alarms and fire safety, tour the fire station and emergency service vehicles, and watch live fire equipment demonstrations.
In 2023, there were 121 fire related deaths in Ontario. The majority of those fires had no working smoke alarms or no evidence of working smoke alarms.
“Fire safety starts at home, and a working smoke alarm is your first line of defense. This Fire Prevention Week, we’re reminding the Quinte West community to ensure that your smoke alarm is properly installed, working and maintained. Smoke alarms save lives, and together, we can ensure every home in Quinte West is fire-safe,” says Fire Chief John Whelan.
Fire Prevention Week is a national event focused on educating the community about fire safety, prevention, and preparedness. Quinte West takes this important opportunity to remind residents to review their fire safety practices, create or update their home escape plans, and ensure that homes and workplaces have properly functioning smoke alarms.
