Quinte West Fire and Emergency Services enters new dispatch service agreement

The City of Quinte West has signed a Fire Dispatch Services agreement with St. Catharines Fire Service (SCFS)  to provide 24/7 emergency call-taking and dispatch services to Quinte West Fire and Emergency Services (QWFES) starting September 19, 2023.

This new agreement transitions Quinte West’s emergency call-taking and dispatch services from Belleville Fire and Emergency Services to SCFS. Belleville Fire and Emergency Services has previously provided these services to Quinte West since 2020. This change does not affect the community’s access to 9-1-1 phone services.

The City’s agreement with St Catharines Fire Service prepares Quinte West Fire and Emergency Services to meet the mandatory transition to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission’s (CRTC) Next Gen 911 (NG 911) system.

Operationally, SCFS will support Quinte West Fire and Emergency Services with the latest advancements in dispatch technology to improve the responsiveness and efficiency of the City’s services into the future. This partnership is a significant milestone in the City’s ongoing mission to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents.

“Our dedicated team of first responders is always ready to serve, and this new dispatch service will help us respond even more effectively and efficiently in emergency situations,” says Quinte West Fire Chief John Whelan. “We look forward to working closely with  St. Catharines Fire Service  to ensure the highest level of service for our residents.”
