Quinte West City Council continues 2023 budget review

City of Quinte West Council will continue its review of the proposed 2023 municipal budget at the Special Council – Budget meeting on Wednesday, March 22. At this meeting, Council will review the updated budget report 23-024FIN, released today, that proposes a number of revenue generation and cost-saving opportunities.

At the start of the City’s budget review process in January, staff presented a draft 2023 budget identifying key financial considerations facing the City. Among the considerations presented was the impact of inflation on the rising costs of maintaining and improving city services, roads, parks, and facilities. Like other municipalities and individuals in today’s economy, the City of Quinte West is paying more for existing goods and services.

At meetings in February and March, Council received feedback from residents and community members on the City’s budget considerations. In response, at the budget meeting on February 15, Council directed staff to bring forward options that assist in limiting the City’s overall tax rate increase.

“Staff have undertaken a comprehensive analysis of city services, resources, and infrastructure needs, in order to present Council with a selection of revenue generation and cost-saving options,” says Quinte West’s Chief Administrative Officer, David Clazie. “While some of the options tabled in the updated budget report, if selected by Council, may result in changes to current capital planning efforts, funding allocations, user fee rates or service levels, the updated budget report continues to ensure the City’s financial alignment with the deliverables of its strategic plan and priorities for the future.”

Staff will present the updated budget report at the March 22 Special Council – Budget meeting. Quinte West residents are welcome to provide comments or address Council as part of all Council meetings. Public input about the updated budget report can be submitted in writing to clerk@quintewest.ca for distribution as correspondence to Council.
