Quinte West Council approved the City’s new Parks and Recreation Master Plan at the May 7, 2025, Council meeting.
Quinte West’s new Parks and Recreation Master Plan guides investment in parks, open spaces and recreation facilities until 2039. The plan is guided by community needs and public input, gathered through a community survey and partner focus groups in the spring of 2024, and a public open house and survey in February 2025.
The plan, focused on ‘growing a healthy and active community for all’, includes 124 recommendations to be implemented over the next 15 years, including:
- Introducing new arts and culture and outdoor recreation programming in conjunction with community partners
- Developing four new tennis courts and 16 new pickleball courts
- Implementing capital improvements to Wooler and Frankford ball diamonds, and further consultation to upgrade Montrose Park.
- Improving amenities such as lighting, drinking water sources, shelters/tree plantings and seating in parks
- Conducting a feasibility study for the provision of ice pads to address use and growth projections
- Improving amenities, accessibility, interactive features, wayfinding and trails at Mount Pelion Park
“We are proud to adopt Quinte West’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan,” said Mayor Jim Harrison. “We look forward to bringing these changes to life throughout Quinte West and want to thank everyone who’s made this plan possible.”
“This plan not only prioritizes the needs for today, but sets the City up for success in meeting the demands and growth of the City over the next 15 years,” notes Director of Community Services and Strategic Partnerships, Jaclyn Grimmon. “I thank the community, our partners and stakeholders for their feedback, interests and efforts which have helped to shape a thoughtful, exciting and financially responsible plan for Quinte West.”
